Nesia 024

Nesia yawned and stretched, but remained in the overly comfortable bed of her penthouse suite on Leisure.  She tried to grab at the fragments of her dream, hoping to find new information, but it slipped away and left her with no headache and ready to get up.  It was a rather frustrating feeling at times.
It had been a week since she had demanded answers from Cam and Kale, though it felt more like months.  And it had been a week since she had gotten a really good flashback of memory.  It felt like her brain was taunting her for taking the easy way out of her memory recovery.
She did remember some things, but it came without an explanation.  It was more a feeling of deja-vu: not realizing she remembered something until it was in front of her.  Or maybe it was more like remember the punch line of an inside joke, but having no idea why it was so funny.  Most of the information she remembered she had gotten from Cam.
Nesia sighed as she ran through her limited knowledge.  She was a mercenary, doing a variety of jobs for money.  Her jobs for Kate were actually not her normal line of work.  Nesia just looked enough like the Algernon heiress to pass as a very convincing double with limited work from Cam.  Nesia’s normal work was in blueprints.
She had an ability to perfectly memorize the dimensions of a room upon entry.  Given enough time and she could even calculate the angles of the security cameras and find all the blind spots.  In fact, according to Cam, Nesia used to be good enough that she could map out an entire building from just one room.
Now, similar to with her memory, it was like relearning to ride a bike that fought back.  The lines she mentally visualized sometimes would fracture and she could only do one room with concentration.  The colors of the lines were a code system she had to re-train herself on.  Her subconscious automatically applied the colors and she would focus as she identified what meant walls or doors or windows.
Nesia pulled herself out of bed and got dressed.  She had a lot to do today.  Today was the last day of Izen’s competition and she promised to be there.  And Donavan was going to try to make it.  Most importantly she needed to talk to the Asuraeson heir.  Her primary job was to get Kate out of this forced marriage.
So far Cam had managed to steamroll her way through as the wedding planner and got everything delayed by several months.  Even the engagement was not official since it had not had a party.  The party that was supposed to happen tomorrow.
“Any breakfast?” Nesia asked as she walked into the main area.
Kale was as far from the kitchen as possible and complete engrossed in his crossword puzzle book.  That answered her question and she paged the front desk for some good breakfast.  She wanted to stay out a lot this day, but if her pretend bodyguard was already edgy then she might have to retreat from the public early.
“Is Mark going to be keeping an eye on things?” Nesia asked as soon as Kale closed his book.
“No,” Kale said with several deep breaths.  “She said she had another job she needed to hit today but that she would look in if she got the chance.”
That was probably the biggest surprise memory Nesia had ever gotten.  To find out that the gun crazy Mark was actually the young sales clerk at the mall was startling.  Still, knowing that her sniper coverage was a girl who might actually be young enough to be in her last year of high school was strangely a comfort.
“Man, I know some weird people,” Nesia sighed.  “Or at least the ones I can remember.  No offense.”
“None taken,” Kale smiled.  “I should be good for a while, though.  So what’s on agenda today?”
“Donavan’s flight gets in about the same time that Izen’s final rounds start.  Izen did say that Donavan was going to try to make it to the matches, but I don’t know if that’s true.  I can either meet Donavan at the estate first and miss some matches, or just go to the competition first and see if Donavan shows.”
“I can handle either,” Kale said after some thought.  “Don’t be too reckless, though.  Vince won’t be here until late tonight.”

Which will it be?
1 – Go to the Estate first?
2 – Go to the Competition first?
