Chapter 2 - Part 3

Unlike in his classes, where being the new kid gave Dylan a temporary pseudo-celebrity status, the lunch group actually treated him like he had been joining them for years.  Amber did most of the talking; going on about the martial arts competition she completely dominated over the summer.  Jordan and Callie had gone and acted as her cheering squad.
“Of course, Jordy missed the final match because he got grounded,” Amber said.
“My parents shut off the electricity to my room,” Jordan sighed.  “It was a miracle the batteries lasted those two weeks in my game player.”
“I thought you killed batteries after three days.”
“That’s why I said miracle,” Jordan told her.  “It was actually kind of weird.  At one point I swear that thing was working even though I had popped the dead batteries out.”
“Uh, huh.”  Amber rolled her eyes and then turned back to the group.  “Anything good with your summer, Shelly?”
“I had to go to every one of my mom’s concerts,” Shelly sighed.  “And I’ve developed a new hatred for models.”
“You mom had you modeling again?” Callie asked.
“Yes.  That and apparently Moriya Faiza is only allowed to have models as backup dancers and not actual dancers,” Shelly sighed and leaned her head back.  “Drove me crazy.”
“I saw the broadcasted concert,” Callie said.  “I thought you were great when you sang that duet with your mom.”
It was then that who Shelly was completely dawned on Dylan.  She was the daughter of pop star Moriya Faiza.  The fact that she was freely associating with this lunch group seemed to go against the stereotypical nature of children of famous people.  Famous people usually ran with the popular crowds, and Dylan highly doubted his cousin was high on the popularity chain.
“What’d you two do over the summer?”  Amber’s voice interrupted Dylan’s thoughts as she turned on the cousins.
“Moving,” Dylan finally answered after Howell shrugged.  “Packing and unpacking seemed to take a month all on its own.”
“Sounds fun,” Amber said, and the conversation ended with the ring of the bell.

  1. I like how all your characters are different; you seem to know them individually!
