Okay, so I guess my post for today is not going to be all that great either. My apologies. Life happens. To make it up to my little readership, I will try to post some actual writing on Saturday. Maybe this time it will be a little more coherent. Anyway, back to today's short post. My post is a quick look at The Goose Girl.
More specifically, I will tell you about the geese. I had gotten to wondering why the geese were so important that the king would even bother to know that he has geese that are tended. Then I got to wondering why the goose boy had no problem with walking up to the king and telling him that the new goose girl was a little bizarre. It made me wonder why the goose boy was so important that he could get an audience with the king and that the king seriously listened to him.
In my retelling, the geese are quite an unusual breed. They are golden geese. They can't fly, but they have jeweled feathers and they can lay golden eggs. They are also quite ornery and picky about who they let be their "gooseboy". The king only has a little bit of sway over who the caretaker is, but really the next "gooseboy" is selected by the current one, or something of that sort. The geese are a source of wealth for this kingdom, so they are important. Since they are arrogant little pricks, though, they are a handful. If they don't like a chosen caretaker, they'll torment the person until they quit. That is why only current caretakers are supposed to select the next "gooseboy". The geese can be a handful, but they are very loyal to their chosen caretakers.
