“Are you done laughing?” Carmine asked, a grin on his face.
Everyone had gone to the apartment complex after the police had shown up at the club. Tech had not been allowed to go, so he hung out in the lobby with Don and his mother. At Vire’s request, Tech tried to hack into the clubs security cameras. In the end, though, the best video came from someone who had posted what their cell phone had recorded.
“I still cannot believe that you seriously yelled that your pants were on fire,” Tech’s mother said in between fits of giggles.
“I can’t believe that you were able to completely stop the fighting,” Agent Wilson said as she watched the video replay.
--What are you saying?-- Tech asked his uncle.
After Carmine had gotten everyone’s attention, he had made a side comment in another language before telling everyone that he had accidentally broken a car window and wanted to find the owner so he could pay them for the damages. When he pulled some cash out, everyone began wondering what car he had hit. Somehow, Carmine had kept things under control until the cops came in, though he did end up giving a wad of cash to Mr. Owens.
“That reminds me,” Mr. Owens said as he gave the money back to its owner. “That’s not even enough to fill up a gas tank.”
“It’s what I had on me.”
--You still haven’t answered my question,-- Tech signed.
“What’s he saying?” Ruke whispered to Don.
“Oh, Tech’s just wondering what Carmine had said in that other language,” Don translated.
“That is a good question,”
“I just told them that I wasn’t a fool,” Carmine explained, and then his voice cracked.
“You really strangled your vocal cords,” Vire said.
“I think that is the loudest I’ve every heard you yell,” Boomer agreed. “I thought our senior year homecoming assembly would always take the cake, but you just proved me wrong.”
Most everyone had stopped paying attention to the posted video of the club brawl, but Tech looked back down at it. Whenever he thought he understood his uncle, it seemed that Carmine had another strange secret that popped up. Not like having the lungs of a blow horn was a big secret, but it was certainly not something you expected to make internet fame. What Tech was more surprised about was his inkling that Carmine had not given the full translation of what he had said.
His uncle had not actually said anything, or even signed anything, about the video being posted, but Tech got the distinction that Carmine would prefer it not be too wide spread. It was evident in the relief that Carmine had expressed when Agent Wilson assured that the poster and video had been caught by the government. It seemed the agents preferred to have limited cyber popularity if they could help it at all.
Using his hacking skills, Tech quickly searched the internet and made sure no copies of the video were made and that no new videos were posted. There were of course none. Because he had been monitoring the actions in the club, Tech had quickly picked up on the video the moment it was posted. He had not told the agents, but he had kept it from being accessible to the world.
“So, is there a good video clip of Ruke getting beat up by that chick?” Don asked.
“I did not get beat up by her,” Ruke protested. “The guy she was trying to smack happened to duck.”
“Well that’s a pretty fancy black eye for just a slap,” Don teased.
“Do you really want one that much?” Ruke threatened.
--Don,-- Tech quickly signed. --I have a video of Ruke taking on a guy twice his size.--
“Do you have a video of me against five?”
--I’ve got the whole thing.--
Hahahahahaha
