Story 22 - Part 3 - A Spring in Your Step

“My goodness,” Agent Wilson said as she watched the dancers. “They put everyone to shame.”

“That’s because they have no shame,” Carmine shouted over the music.

Boomer and Tasha had come along to be the ‘normal’ couple. They actually were really good at drawing attention away from everyone else. It was pretty cool to watch as they improvised to match the DJ’s beat. Carmine had decent rhythm, but the best he could do was jump to the beat. Agent Tiffany Wilson, his date, admitted that she had was notorious for taking her dance partners down with her.

They had had two near disasters when they tried actual dancing in the middle of the group and decided that it would be best to move. Carmine and Tiffany found a corner that was near the dance floor, but no longer right in front of the speakers. They had danced for a while, but once Carmine noticed Nero and Jordan coming in, it was decided that they could take a break.

Carmine grinned as he surveyed the ongoing party vibe that emanated from the club. Ruke was proving that he was an exceptional actor as he had attracted a study group that could not seem to help but laugh at every joke he told. At least a fourth of the clubbers were fascinated with the Fabers and the confidence in which they mastered every song.

“Oh my goodness,” Agent Wilson laughed. “Is he really?”

“Starting a line dance to a hip-hop song?” Carmine asked as he looked over at Boomer. “Yes. And in a few moments the entire dance floor will join him.”

“Isn’t line dance for country?”

“Not if you can match the beat,” Carmine answered. “Not to mention some of those moves aren’t found in country line dancing.”

“Well, let’s try it,” Tiffany laughed as she dragged Carmine onto the dance floor.

Given his best efforts, Carmine probably could have remastered the dance. Boomer had made up the line dance in high school and by their senior year it had become a tradition at every dance. Carmine tripped up and lost the rhythm several times as his eyes kept flicking over to Jordan. In a few moments, he was pretty sure Jordan was going to be the catalyst for trouble.

What Carmine had not expected was the amount of trouble. It started out small, but it seemed like it only took seconds for the club to erupt into an old western, saloon-styled free-for-all. Carmine dashed forward and snatched Tiffany out of the way as two people crashed onto the dance floor in an all out slug fest. Boomer and Tasha were on the other side of the fight, but Carmine was not too worried about them. Boomer would cream anyone who touched his wife.

“What I wouldn’t give for a hand gun,” Agent Wilson muttered as reached into Carmine’s jacket and pulled out her taser and mace that he was holding for her. “Duck.”

Tiffany sprayed at least three people with mace as Carmine moved to the side. Carmine quickly scanned the crowd and spotted Jordan and Nero struggling in the most dangerous looking section of the fight. Backup was sure to flood the place in a minute, but sometimes a minute was not fast enough.

“Cover me,” Carmine said to Agent Wilson.

“What?” she cried out, but too late.

He never completely thought most of these things through. Carmine was just glad that his intuition was usually right. He bolted underneath a right hook and in between to guys who looked like they were trying to hold a boxing match. With two steps, Carmine had jumped onto the edge of an upturned table and then only the balcony railing that separated the bar from the dance floor.

Any intelligent conversation was gone, and people were just coming up with as many insults as they possibly could, even in other languages. Sometimes it was a disadvantage to be able to speak so many languages, but Carmine figured he could use it to his advantage. Most everyone in the place understood two core languages from what he could tell.

Carmine swayed on the railing as he dodged a flying bottle, but he did not jump down. He was about to do something that most people had never heard him do. Carmine almost grinned as he remembered the Morgan family’s first reaction when they found out that not only could he yell, but he could be extremely loud. Taking a deep breath, Carmine brought the action to a temporary halt by yelling a must unusual sentence.
