“I’m really sorry I freaked out,” Vire said the moment Jordan walked through the door.
It was nearly evening before he came back, and he looked perfectly fine. The last thing she wanted was to come across as some sort of clingy, paranoid girlfriend. Jordan had survived the military without her worry. Since Vire had had all day to think about it, she had realized that her fifteen phone calls were a little excessive.
“Your warning came just in time,” Jordan said as he gave her a hug.
“You mean something actually happened?” Vire asked.
“Yeah,” Jordan looked a little sheepish. “I probably should have called, but the MPs were being pretty thorough.”
“So, what happened?” Carmine asked as he poked his head around the corner, followed shortly by Tech.
“Some terrorist organization tried to get information and hostages,” Jordan said matter-of-factly. “But Agent Driver and I took care of them. Thanks for the warning, Vi. It put me on guard so that I was able to spot the trouble.”
“Wait, the govie agents were there?” Vire asked.
--What happened?-- Tech signed.
“Agent Driver almost shot you?” Carmine’s tone was just as much statement as it was question.
“Okay, okay,” Jordan laughed. “One at a time.”
“You almost got shot?” --Driver shot you?--
“No,” Jordan grinned. “He shot the guy I was trying to take care of. That guy’s good with a gun, even after being struck by lightning.”
“Sit,” Vire said as she pushed Jordan onto one of the lobby couches. “Now, explain.”
Jordan definitely had a thing for story telling, which Vire really enjoyed. It was fun listening to how he played dead and waited for the last minute. The kidnappers had put so much trust in their knock out gas that they had completely neglected the fact that some people can hold their breath and play dead. It was a little concerning to hear how Driver had gotten electrocuted when the lightning had hit the car. The govie agents were at the complex so much they were practically family.
“I have a quick question,” Carmine said after Jordan finished his story. “Did Agent Michaels ever decide if he was going to move in here?”
“Oh, he’s just waiting for his other contract to end,” Vire answered. “So, is Driver really all right?”
“A little shook up,” Jordan answered. “It almost seemed like he had short circuited for the first couple of minutes. He freaked out every time he heard thunder for the next several hours. He only started calming down once the storm finished an hour ago.”
“Well, getting struck doesn’t sound like fun.”
--I’m sure his personality was quite electrifying,-- Tech signed.
“Wow,” Jordan laughed with everyone else. “That was pretty punny.”
“And that was lamer,” Vire laughed as she smacked Jordan on the back.
“Tech,” Carmine interrupted. “Can you show me how your car is coming along?”
--Sure,-- Tech answered. --But why so sudden?--
“Oh, Jordan ‘s about to ask your mom to go on a sunset stroll.”
“Way to ruin it for me,” Jordan growled. “And it’s not a sunset stroll. It’s the hero riding off into the sunset.”
“Well,” Vire laughed, “my answer is yes, whichever it is.”
Yay! A happy ending!! :D Not that I doubted it, but I like him and Vire riding off into the sunset! In the plaid car. Haha.
