Story 06 – Part 3 – Storm On Through

Jordan?” Regg called out.

“I see it. I see it,” Jordan growled.

After nearly fifteen minutes of car chasing, their opponents had managed to get a car to block the rode up ahead. Jordan quickly lined up with the rear axle of the car. Regg braced himself and grabbed Giovanno’s seatbelt just to be sure. Jordan slammed on his breaks as they got closer. Speed was going to be crucial when they rammed into the car. If they were too slow then they would not get through. But if they were too fast, then Jordan’s car was going to end up too damaged to drive. That was not even taking into account how they would fair.

The sound of the impact was lost to the jerk of the seatbelt against his chest. Regg was sure he was going to be feeling the bruises for weeks. The impact rattled Michaels so badly that his mind did not catch up with the action until they were well past the road block and dodging another one. Despite all of the times that he had been in car chases, Agent Michaels doubted that it would ever seem old.

“I don’t know how,” Jordan said to no one in particular, “but I am going to rig my car to deploy a spike strip or something. By the way, Driver, you’re paying for my repairs!”

“I’ll even host a bake sale for you if you don’t kill us,” Dev hollered back as he checked behind them. “I’m just glad your car’s relatively bullet proof.”

“You know you’re enjoying this.”

“If I wasn’t I wouldn’t be an agent.”

“A bake sale agent.”

“Now is not the time to talk about bake sales,” Regg interrupted.

Giovanno gave a deep chuckle as he did his best to keep from bouncing all around the back of the car. It was obvious to Regg that Giovanno was a well seasoned spy of some sort. The man kept his hat pulled down the entire time even though their seatbelts felt like they were going to break from the force of the turns.

“Seriously,” Jordan demanded as he continued driving through the industrial sector. “How long am I supposed to do this before the SWAT team, or at least the cops, show up?”

“Bosere would have already called them off,” Dev said calmly. “Turn left in two streets.”

“What?” Jordan and Regg asked at the same time.

“Trust me.”

Regg did. You did not work with someone in such ludicrous assignments for two years and not trust them. He just had no idea what Bosere had in mind. Dev obviously had an idea as to what would happen. Driver always had a way of figuring out the larger plan, even when he was given absolutely no information on it. Bosere was a firm believer of ‘need to know,’ but Dev always seemed to know whenever he put his mind to it.

Jordan drove the car like a madman, but he obeyed every direction that Agent Driver called out to him. It was not long before Regg began to realize that the only cars in the industrial sector were theirs and their pursuers’ cars. Perhaps the pursuers had begun to figure that out, but by then it was too late for them to back out.

“Park there,” Dev called out.

Instantly Agent Michaels braced himself for the sudden stop that jerked him around the back seat of the car. There was little he could do about the added bruising to his torso from the seatbelt. There were the sounds of a car crash nearby, but Regg did not bother to look. Agent Driver would deal with that, if anything needed to be dealt with. Michaels’ duty was to their passenger first.

“I’m getting too old for this,” Giovanno muttered, but the man did have a smile on his face.

“All right,” Dev said as he undid his seatbelt. “We’re clear. Bosere has another group taking care of clean up. Everyone all right?”

“Bruised, but still alive in the back seat,” Regg told him.

“You are definitely paying for my car repairs,” Jordan said as he started fidgeting with his cybernetic hand.

  1. Awesome chase! Great description of how the impacts would happen.
Does he have a little soccer trophy mounted to the front of his lime green car? Haha
