Story 03 – Part 4 – Sky Blue

“I would say that I can’t believe you actually tried that,” Vire said, “but I actually can.”

Boomer had to wonder what had happened after he had left. He had come back and got his daughter, and then did some real shopping before he had picked up his wife. Tasha wanted to see these new apartments herself after Boomer had given her a description of the apartment complex. Even though he had mentioned that one of the walls in the lobby was her favorite sky blue color.

Of course, the only description he had been able to give her was the lobby and the managers. But Tasha preferred good managers over a good apartment, since the two tended to go together. That was the reason they were looking for a new place. Tasha felt that their previous managers did not care, and Boomer had to agree.

“Oh, you came back,” Mr. Owens said.”

“Surprised?” Boomer asked.

“I suppose I don’t know you well enough to decide that,” Mr. Owens admitted. “And this must be your lovely wife, Mrs….You know, I just realized I don’t know your last name.”

“Tasha Faber,” Boomer’s wife said, “but you can just call me Tasha. And you must be Mr. Owens.”

“No Mister. Just Owens will do.”

“Well, I have a few questions about your apartments,” Tasha said. “Boomer was a little vague on details about price and the quality of the apartments. All I got was that he got to help some federal agents.”

Owens started laughing and finally composed himself so that he could discuss business with Tasha. Boomer had already decided that he would like to move into this place, but if Tasha was not set then he would keep looking. Even when he had found out that Carmine actually did not live here, Boomer had decided he liked the so-called side job of most of the tenants.

“So, what’d I miss?” Boomer asked Vire, who was still laughing at the agents.

“He can’t blend in for the life of him,” Vire explained. “Apparently, Driver here, he actually did try to walk into the cult meeting like he was a lost tourist.”

“Did it work?”

Dev looked a little sheepish while Vire laughed some more. “Yes and no. Let’s just say he’s lucky that Michaels had backup on speed dial.”

“In my defense,” Agent Driver protested, “they had no idea that I was government. They just thought that I was a stupid drunk.”

“You were trying to pretend being drunk?” Agent Michaels asked. “I thought you were pretending to by on some really weird drugs.”

“Boom,” Tasha called. “I think I like this place. Let’s rent.”

“Sounds good to me,” Boomer answered.

“So we’re going to add this little cutie to the apartment?” Vire asked as she leaned over the stroller. “I’ve got to build a slide or swings. Blue to match her eyes.”

“And as I said,” Owens interrupted, “we can fully negotiate price when you decide to come by and sign the contract.”

“That reminds me,” Agent Michaels started, then he hesitated, looking a little embarrassed. “Do you think I’d be able to rent here?”

“What?” Owens asked. “You don’t think that being here at least once a month isn’t enough?”
