Action has won. And on another note, I am making a voting poll for everyone’s convenience. It is located on the right side. Vote however many times you want, and you are quite welcome to still comment if you think there is a better option that I did not mention. If enough people like it then I will write it. Now, on to a dream-twisted action memory.
*********
The giant, lime green cat purred as Nesia guided it through the maze of canyons. She checked her harness and gripped the wheel firmly as she peered out from under the canopy attached to the cat. The deep purple canopy shielded her from the sun as she stared at the canyon walls, looking for her destination.
She found it in a place where holes in the canyons were starting to look like windows. It was a dead end canyon, and Nesia hesitated a moment before slowly gliding the lime green cat into the alleyway. Someone was supposed to be meeting her down here.
The canopy shook dangerously with a thud, scaring Nesia so badly that she hit the brakes. Her seatbelt-less self jerked forward and set off the horn. Whoever had landed on the canopy scrambled around and hollered something that sounded like a battle cry.
Without a moment of hesitation Nesia stepped on the cat, sending the lime vehicle roaring backwards and into oncoming traffic. Shifting gears she sped forward again, trying to put as much distance as possible between herself and that alleyway.
“Were you trying to throw me off?” a voice said from behind.
Nesia glanced behind her at the man in the monkey suit. “Were you trying to scare me?”
“Just making a scene,” the voice behind the mask laughed. “Now if you excuse me, I have to change before we reach the bridge.”
She did not even bother to roll her eyes, mainly because the lime cat was not smoothly weaving in and out of traffic. Driving was not her talent. Sure her reckless driving was a little more controlled than most of the galactic population, but that really was not saying much. It was a miracle they reached the bridge without a major accident. She had caused a few minor ones, but nothing that stopped the high-powered, lime green feline.
“Hurry up,” the monkey man called out.
Nesia stuck the cat in autopilot as soon as she sped through the bridge toll without paying the fine. The monkey man was dressed in black, his face obscured by sunglasses, hat, and scarf. He climbed onto the canopy and pulled Nesia up after him. Behind them, men mounted on cannons were trying to shoot them off.
The cannons missed, but the pipe cleaner bridge started to shake as the painted background started to drip away into grey. She saw a yellow flag at the half way point on the bridge and grabbed onto the monkey man as the whole world started to crumble and fade from her grasp.
“Now!” Nesia yelled as they passed the flag.
The monkey-suit man leapt off the lime green cat, taking her with him. They cleared the edge of the bridge and saluted their pursuers. Nesia got a good look at the fatal drop before a clash of black and white flooded her view.
What annoyed her was not that she woke up in the middle of a death fall. She was annoyed because she knew that some part of her dream was a memory. It was probably not the cat that was the important part. She hated cats anyway, and she was glad to know that she was smart enough to figure out that the cat was actually a car. An ugly lime green and purple car, if she was remembering correctly.
A week in the hospital and that was all she could ever get. Random tidbits of memory were mixed together with what must have been a recent movie she had seen. She sighed and went to the bathroom attached to her private hospital room.
“Why are you being difficult?” she asked the mirror.
The person being called Kate shrugged back at her, blonde curls bouncing off her shoulder. Nesia carefully studied herself. Her eyes were a deep blue that border lined on purple. Her blonde curls cascaded past her shoulders and if she were to straighten them her hair would reach her lower back.
She really wanted to cut it off. Long hair was Kate, not Nesia. Though, she still had not found any evidence that proved she was not Kate. All she had was some instinct that told her it was wrong.
First of all, she did not feel like a rich girl who was raised with wealth. Kate Algernon was the daughter of a space flight company’s CEO and had enough money to buy an entire moon if she really wanted. Nesia was pretty sure she lacked in innate refinement that should come with high class society.
Second, the cat that attacked her was supposed to be her own. Kate was well known for being a little reclusive and for always bringing her cat everywhere. Nesia was pretty sure she was allergic to the creatures. She could not fathom carrying one with her.
Of course, all of her information she had gotten on Kate had come from Izen. Aside from Doctor Grainger, Izen was the only other person she had talked with. No one else had tried to contact her all week. Then again, Izen did say that Kate had a strained relationship with her parents.
Apparently Donavan, her fiancée was stuck on the other side of the planet during this planets storm season. Nesia glance down at her hands. While her cast had come off yesterday, she still had no actual engagement ring. Izen had been unable to find it at all for her.
“Nesia?” She was pulled out of her thoughts and realized that she was still standing in the bathroom
“Give me a minute,” she called out to Doctor Grainger.
Today was her release day, and all she had to wear was her dress pant,s that even the cleaners could not get the blood stain out of, and a borrowed t-shirt of Izen’s. She looked ridiculous. Izen had tried his best, but an “N.Tyanio can count to infinity” shirt really did not match well with charcoal pinstripe pants and heels.
“I guess I’ll try to start a new trend,” Nesia sighed as she walked out of the bathroom.
“I’ve got a great addition,” Grainger said as he held up a blue and green knitted hat and some sunglasses. “Wouldn’t want to cause a media storm to leave the tabloids and make it galactic.”
While Kate never sought out fame, her parents had broken up and gotten back together enough times for her to be unable to avoid the slew of people with no life of their own. The fact that she had come to this planet for the express purpose of meeting with Donavan Asuraeson was enough to get plenty of rumors started. That fact that she was still here just kept them going.
“I’ll be sure stretch and exercise my hand carefully,” Nesia said as she took the accessories. She trusted the doctor. While she did not remember much, she was positive that he was familiar.
“And here are your medications,” Grainger said as he led her out into the hall. “This one is to help with strengthening your bones and arm mobility. Take it twice a day until the bottle is empty. Should last you a week. Oh, and I also got you more allergy medicine since you can’t remember if you need more.”
“Twice a day,” Nesia nodded as the doctor put the bottles in a bag.
“Now this one is a mild pain killer for headaches and soreness in your arm. Don’t take more than two at a time,” Doctor Grainger cautioned. “And then this pill you should probably take once a day.”
“What’s that for?”
“Your head. It can’t restore your memories, but it might help. We’ll see how you’re doing when you have your check up in a week.”
“I’ll hope for the best,” Nesia told him as she took the bag with her medications.
They walked out to the taxi pad where the doctor had one waiting. The taxi hovered patiently as its programming happily counted away how much its time would cost. The doctor had taken care of the payment, so all she needed to do was give it the location of her hotel room and not worry.
“Call me if you have any concerns,” Doctor Grainger told her before he shut the taxi door. “My number is on one of your bottles, if you can’t find your phone to look it up for you instead.”
“Thank you,” Nesia smiled as the door shut.
“Destination?” the programmed voice cheerfully chirped.
Nesia paused for a moment as she thought of the location she really wanted to go.
***************
Where should she go?
…1 – Her hotel room to see what’s inside?
…2 – The Asuraeson Estate to see if Izen or Donavan might be there?
…3 – A mall to get new clothes and eat something other than hospital food?
And remember, now you can vote with the poll on the top right. You can still comment if you want or if you think there is a better option.
