Chapter 2 - Part 6

This sort of thing happened often.  The way Jordan looked at it was that he was paying rent for using Amber’s spare room by buying half her groceries.  His parents would never find out since he used the money that he earned through hacking and programming.  No doubt his father would have a heart attack if he found out that his son was actually richer than his own parents.
The store was about a five minute train ride away, and the entire time Jordan fiddled with the goggles.  He could adjust light sensitivity, and he found out that there was also a setting for heat vision as well as night vision.  When he stepped off the train he had the goggles pulled over one eye as he was comparing his view with normal vision as he tried to decipher the newest setting.
There was a commotion nearby because someone had collapsed, but since rescue was there, Jordan paid little attention.  That was until something flashed through the goggles.  He turned his head as he tried to catch the flash, but failed to find anything.  It had actually looked more like an absence of heat, but it was probably just the reflection of light off the goggles.
He had thought that maybe he had seen a warp in his vision with his uncovered eye, but Jordan quickly shrugged that off as he went back to adjusting the goggles.  Whatever it was had probably been the goggles.  One of the Maddocks must have thrown them at the TV, so something was probably broken in them.  Moving into the store, Jordan quickly hunted down the three items he had been tasked with and returned back to Amber’s apartment, still fiddling with the goggles.
