Story 14 – Part 2 – High Noon

Jordan watched the plethora of seniors who were leaving campus for lunch. Several kids kept gawking at the plaid car as they walked by, though Jordan began to realize that several of them were also staring at his metal hand. This was the first time he had actually picked Tech up at school and now Jordan was wondering if perhaps Tech was a little embarrassed to be picked up in the plaid wonder-mobile.

“Hey Jordan,” Don called out as he and Tech walked toward the car. “Looking stylish as usual.”

“Oh course,” Jordan laughed. “I was thinking of wearing polka dots just to match everything else.”

--If you did that I would not let you marry my mother,-- Tech signed.

“Even I don’t have fashion sense that tacky,” Jordan assured. “Well, let’s get going. Your mom gave me a list of errands that will probably take all day, so it looks like we’ll be having a guys’ night out with shopping. We’ll need to do something manly later.”

--Let’s go see the latest Renegade Cable movie,-- Tech suggested.

“Balancing the frills with some good, reliable explosions. Sounds perfect.”

They climbed into the car and Don waved them off as he went over to his car. Jordan only held conversations with Tech whenever they reached stop lights and the primary topic was where they should go for lunch. Since Tech had agreed to come on the errands with him, Jordan offered to take him to most any place he wanted to go. In the end, they just went to the mall and ate in the food court since most of their errands involved shops in the mall.

“Okay, so here’s the list,” Jordan said as he pushed the piece of paper across the table. “We’ve got to get ties that have to match the wedding colors as well as tuxes, and we also need to pick out a few things for the reception.”

--It’s only noon,-- Tech signed. --It shouldn’t take too long to do those things.--

“That’s just the back of the list,” Jordan pointed out.

Tech flipped the paper over and raised his eyebrows at the sight of the full page. Jordan laughed as Tech’s facial expressions got better each time he read a new item. Vire had never had a wedding before, and so she and her mother were going to town with this planning. His own parents were still out in the middle of no where and so they had not heard about the wedding yet, but Carmine had promised to let them know as soon as he could.

--Ties it is,-- Tech finally signed.

“Since you’re a part of the group that has to wear one, it would be better if you picked a tie that you wouldn’t mind wearing again,” Jordan assured.

--Are you wearing a tie?-- Tech asked. --I know you’re wearing your uniform. Is that worse than a tie?--

“Worse than a tie?” Jordan laughed. “You make it sound like dressing up and looking nice occasionally is a bad thing.”

--Well, my mom was never big into looking fancy. At least not until you proposed.--

They continued talking as they headed toward the men’s section of the closest department store. The tie section was pretty impressive, and pretty expensive. Vire’s favorite colors were all metallic in shade, so it was decided that the wedding colors would be along those lines. There were some pretty good looking ties in the section.

“Hey,” a voice said from behind. “You two aren’t planning on shoplifting, are you?”

“Boomer,” Jordan said as he turned around. “You’re working here today?”

“Yep,” Boomer grinned.

“Where are your helpers?”

“Tasha wants to see if they’re interested in gymnastics.”

“At there age?”

“Tasha could do it at that age,” Boomer said with a shrug. “So, I’m off of work in a bit. Do you guys want to catch lunch with me?”

“We already ate,” Jordan apologized. “Thanks though.”
