Story 13 – Part 4 – Building a Family

“It’s good to be home,” Regg said with a sigh as he collapsed onto the lobby couch.

He was absolutely exhausted from the past weak. It was actually one of the few times he had ever seen Dev go on a rampage. Driver had kept himself pretty under control until they got back to the main office. The moment Dev had gotten a hold of Bosere and Kazei, the entire office heard what was going on. Several agents had a hard time believing that it was Driver who was taking on the bosses.

After a while, though, all of the agents that were in the office threatened to revolt. The agency was not an agency that a person applied for. In truth, it seemed like the agency applied for the agents. Just assigning a person to the agency without them being recommend by a current agent never went over well. By the end of the whole argument, several higher officials had gotten involved, and Bosere bragged that he had won bets from all of them that Driver would figure out what was going on.

Regg stretched out, trying to decide if he had enough energy to get off the lobby couch and up to his apartment. It seemed that Dev was in danger of becoming the next director, which would make Regg a senior agent rather than just Driver’s partner. Still, one never knew with the agency. Knowing Dev, he would turn the offer down. They had better chances of getting Owens to be the new director.

Actually, now that he remembered that Owens had turned down being director, Regg decided that the agency had a better chance of getting Tech as the new director. The only problem was that he was not even out of high school. Of course, Tech was well on his way to being recruited into the agency. Regg was really hoping that he and Driver could go back to their normal routines and utilize Tech’s hacking and the Freelance Agency.

“Okay, okay,” Jordan laughed as he came in the lobby with Tech and Carmine. “I was just joking about having your guys wear kilts for the wedding.”

“Oh, we know that,” Carmine assured. “Just know if you try a stunt like that, we will go along with it. I’ll just make sure I get Boomer to help me with decorating your car, and a few other things.”

“Now that’s just cruel,” Jordan whined. “You’re not going to let them do that to me Tech? Are you?”

Tech signed something and Carmine started laughing so hard that he had to sit down on one of the other couches. Jordan sighed and admitted defeat. Soon all three were on the lobby couches, making Regg conscious of the fact that he was taking up a lot of space with his bag and body.

“Long time, no see,” Jordan said to Regg. “You move into this place and suddenly we stop seeing you.”

“I know,” Regg sighed as he sat up. “We’re experience some, uh, management adjustment.”

“Management adjustment?”

“I think he means that he’s getting a new boss,” Carmine said.

“This is awesome,” Jordan grinned. “My brother-in-law is a mind reader.”

“I don’t read minds,” Carmine sighed.

“Wait,” Regg interrupted. “Are you already married or just got engaged?”

“Engaged,” Jordan answered.

“Who won the bet?”

“Well, since I was unofficially banned from the actually betting,” Carmine explained, “it wasn’t me. Instead, Wilanna Owens was the one who nailed it, spot on.”

  1. Yay! And a wedding! With Tech and Carmine in kilts! Well, maybe in kilts.
    But Jordan's car is doomed.
