“I’m out of ideas,” Agent Michaels admitted.
After hours of bouncing ideas back and forth, they were still no where. Any good ideas involved Vire building a spy satellite. Though Regg did not doubt she could do it he doubted it would be something that the agency would prefer. Owens and Driver were bouncing the wildest ideas off each other ranging from aliens and clones to top secret government work.
“We’ve tried every kind of search and his picture is on every cops watch list,” Dev repeated yet again. “What are we missing?”
“Oh, this is fun,” Wilanna said. “I see why you’ve enjoyed this part of your job, Nero. Keep it to this and none of the running around and it’s really kind of fun.”
“That’s because you’ve always loved thinking games dear,” Owens said.
“Tech,” Vire sighed in exasperation. “How long have you been eavesdropping?”
Owens and Wilanna turned toward the lobby front door and so both agents followed suit. A teenage boy was leaning against the wall. His bag was slung over his shoulder as he put a laptop inside it. The boy shrugged and then pulled the headphones off. He rubbed his hand through his short brown hair and then signed something.
“Don’t be smart with me, young man,” Vire snapped.
That was when Agent Michaels realized that this teenager was Vire’s son. He looked a bit like his mother when it came to facial shape, but he definitely did not have his mother’s build. He was far more slight and looked like he spent his time indoors. The boy signed a few more times with Vire responding.
“Why is he signing?” Driver whispered to Owens. “He’s not deaf. He was listening to music.”
Tech hit the wall to get everyone’s attention and stormed over to Agent Driver. The teenager dug through his bag and pulled out a notepad, shoving the first page into Agent Driver’s face. Tech then shoved it into Regg’s face as well. ‘I’m mute, not stupid’ the page read.
“And you have the most incredible hearing,” Owens said.
“Deitech Morgan,” Vire snapped. “Behave or I won’t let you go meet Carmine’s flight next month.”
The teen looked a little sullen, but he nodded. Tech pulled out his laptop and started typing. Regg leaned forward with everyone else as they tried to see what Tech was doing. The teen pulled up a picture of the mad scientist and stuck it into a computer program. He then pulled up another computer program and typed up what he wanted to say.
“I can find this McFarmer guy,” the words said on the computer.
“Really?” Regg was more curious than sarcastic.
“Does it involve hacking?” Vire asked sharply.
“Just to catch a bad guy, mom,” Tech typed. “I won’t get caught and I won’t do anything else.”
“It’s a nice idea,” Agent Driver interrupted before Vire could respond. “Our own people have already searched the network and videos though.”
Tech grinned and plugged his headphones into his laptop. It looked like all he was doing was listening to music, but then street cameras started pulling up on his computer.
“You hacked Metro’s security cameras?” Regg asked in surprise.
“If it works,” Dev said, “I’ll get the agency to ignore this little bit of hacking.”
“He’s a kid hacking the government.”
“On our side,” Agent Driver said with a devious grin.
